As employers, we are more at ease handling material objects. Written data and information analytics are predictable and understandable and provide a foundation to build. Similarly, we are typically adept at deciphering other people's behavior.

Note: This article is based on the work of Ryon Gross, who tells us about his experience in developing a mindset that believes in success.

We have put a lot of effort into getting to know our clientele. Therefore, we can serve them more effectively. We also research topics that uplift, support, and help keep our staff members around. The most valuable resource that entrepreneurs possess, though, is their mindset. Creating a success-oriented mindset is a potent, successful, and tested strategy.

How to benefit from a mindset that believes in success?

I'm just a marketer and not a neuroscientist, but I have been applying the influence of mindset to my company's management processes. My interest in the topic started when my successful life coach client managed to reach out to me. She asked me to assist her in making her coaching company's website more search engine-friendly. As I worked deeper and updated the site, changing words, titles, and essential phrases, I kept coming back to her core ideas, which included "emotional intelligence," "coachable mindset," and "personal values." Her message significantly focused on developing the skills and self-awareness necessary to cultivate a fruitful, growth-oriented mindset.

As we worked to create and publicize their success stories, my interest in the subject grew. These topics affected me personally, and I thought I was working safely within my field of work related to providing tangible and thoughtful outputs. However, it became clear that my negative or positive feelings impact the output's quality and quantity. My creativity flowed more freely, and I had more energy to spare when I was upbeat. My decisions, productivity, and even my teammates suffered when I was depressed. It was contagious.

The fact that my client's service was based on a tool I already owned, the mindset, made her message alluring. However, after giving it some thought, I realized I wasn't making the most of it, so I decided to find out more.

Limited investment opens up unlimited horizons and possibilities

Does what I promise to seem vague and intangible? Maybe on the exterior, but trust me when I say this is accurate. What I will share with you today has been scientifically verified, and every day seems like more proof. While many factors influence mindset, neuroscience research reveals more about the secrets of human potential and mindset.

Three core areas, in particular, I believe have great potential for business leaders: investing your passion, balancing work and personal values, and encouraging gratitude behavior. The good news is that using these technologies is not too challenging; your primary investment will be in yourself, in the form of a dedication to growing in self-awareness.

Personal Motives

Why do we act in that way? According to the self-determination theory put forth by Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan, all people have internal motivations that drive them to be more creative and productive when they engage in activities that satisfy their three basic psychological needs: competence, autonomy, and sense of connectedness, in addition to their external motivations. I will briefly explain each of them:

  • Competence is engaging in activities that help one master a craft, concept, skill, or others.
  • Autonomy: The ability to direct efforts toward a goal and choose what, when, and with whom to do it.
  • Feeling connected: Engaging in activities that foster a sense of community and relationships with others; by "others," we may refer to clients, coworkers, or even the idea of a "public interest" as a whole.

When we discover activities that fulfill these needs, we take the initiative to engage in them regularly and typically give them our all. These three psychological needs can be described as a magic potion to increase productivity.

Finding my passion in marketing

Early in my career, I could discover my passion for my field. My experience in positions unrelated to e-marketing hasn't stopped me from sharing my thoughts on marketing tactics. Beyond the duties assigned in my role, I volunteered to do extra work, such as updating websites and even delving deeper into on-site traffic analytics whenever possible.

When I got the chance to test my ideas, I was thrilled to do so and felt satisfied. I tracked my progress and identified the successful and unsuccessful concepts. Therefore, when I got the chance, I didn't hesitate to establish my own e-marketing business.

Passion produces better work

I encourage my clients to share their passion while crafting their website's “About Us” page. It plays a significant role in instilling a sense of credibility. Clients and customers are grateful when you deal with them honestly, as we all do. I have personally solicited the results of this in website analytics. Well-designed “About Us” pages receive more visits, and the choice of clients to participate generates positive emotions when the company's message resonates with them, whether it is related to the company's history, the owner's motives, or even the company's values.

Reconciling your work with your values

Passion and aligning your work with your personal values are related. Kathy Walter, Brain Basics professional trainer, refers to values as "the secret power behind the answer 'yes' or 'no.'" Personal values come in many forms, such as purpose, family, solitude, financial security, and generosity. Everybody has values that they evaluate more than others.  Most values develop early in life, primarily through interactions with our closest caregivers. We can adopt some of these core values later in life after experiencing significant life events.

Deep awareness of personal values

Being business leaders, we will have to make a lot of choices. Using the inputs of our core values in the decision-making process is valuable. We preserve our passion when we make choices based on our fundamental beliefs. You cannot feel passionate about an activity that conflicts with your core values. When we are resentful, we look for our values, and we often notice points that we have missed. Reconciling your daily activities with your values will positively affect your passion, which enhances your productivity.

Gratitude Culture

The gratitude concept is my favorite idea in this discussion of the business manager's mindset since it's simple to implement and can be realized immediately. Shawn Achor, American author and speaker, highlights the importance of gratitude in achieving overall happiness in his book "The Happiness Advantage." Additionally, he explains that a brief workout can give you a six-month boost in optimism. You must list three things each day for 21 consecutive days you are thankful for. Additionally, studies have demonstrated that gratitude alters our brains physically through a process known as "neuroplasticity." However, for the sake of this discussion, let me highlight the following advantages of gratitude:

  • Finding meaning in our professional lives.
  • Developing better managers, for instance, increasing gratitude makes people more likely to participate in social behaviors, such as offering moral support to colleagues, which boosts productivity.
  • Enhancing decision-making abilities by reducing "economic impatience" or simply enabling decision-makers to consider significant potential future benefits rather than only the short-term gains.

Be honest with your success mindset

Developing a mindset that believes in success is viable and rewarding, so I am passionate about sharing what I have learned. Sharing this information with you supports my core values to help others reach their maximum potential.

Develop a behavior of gratitude since there is always something to thank for, and develop the mindset you need to become a better person, and success will surely follow.
